Friday Things - March 20 - 2020

Whoa.

What A. Week.

I like a good Friday Things Post. It’s fun to peel back the curtain and show you what life for our business has been like in the last week but this week has been like no other. Our minds are reeling.. thoughts are truncated…bullet points are needed.

Can you relate?

• We are all good. We are healthy.

• Melissa and Kasey put their work at home plans into place.

• And then changed the plans.

• And then changed them again.

• And then re-wrote the plan entirely. Because that is how it goes.

• We put plans in place for what business activities we will focus on if we stop selling, and if we stop installing. Fear is in the unknown. As the great Louis Pasteur said “Chance favors the prepared.” And we now very much prepared. Nothing stops. Activity shifts.

• Steve kept selling. And measuring. And ordering. He unloaded a truck. He scheduled as many installs for next week as he possibly could. We will keep working and delivering our service as long as we are able.

• Melissa survived 7 full days home along with Tessie. No commitments, nowhere to go. No playdates. No fun. Although there were no mandated distance learning activities in place we definitely tried to stick to a schedule and engage her mind each day.

• We were overwhelmed with gratitude when a marketing business partner of ours called us proactively to reduce our invoice by half next month because of the anticipated drop in business. This is what happens when you work with small business. They get it. They understand. They know we all fail or we all succeed but it happens together. They choose success. Shop small business. I’ll say it again. Shop small business.

• We have felt the full magnitude of what a strong school district looks like. Our Bloomington Schools have exceeded our expectations over and over this last week.

• Finally, we feel pride and comfort in the leadership of Minnesota and in the strength, skill and talent of all the Minnesotans who are working together to find solutions.

The future remains unclear. Next week’s update will probably look very different. Stay tuned.
