What is the difference between a bay window and a bow window anyway? I’ll tell you. A bay window has 3 pieces of glass. The center piece is the largest and the window to each side of the center is smaller and at an angle to the house. The side windows can be either a double hung or a casement and there are options for the angle they come out of the house at. A bow window has 4-6 pieces of glass. They are all the same size and instead of coming out of your house at an angle they curve out. Both bay windows and bow windows are well known for bringing lots of light into the room and often times will be seen full of plants, sleeping cats, kids with books and if you’re at our house… about 700 Legos.
If you are thinking of creating a bay or bow window in a space that currently has a different type of window there are some specific considerations to be made. The weight of the window will need to be supported by either roof cables or a stronger base underneath. Each house is different and for that reason your best bet is to have a professional like Steve the Window Guy come out and evaluate it with you. Bay and bow windows both come with lots of available upgrades like interior lighting and heated seats.
